Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at nyackporchfest@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A Porchfest is a community music and arts festival that turns neighborhoods into walkable, open-air stages, with performances hosted on front porches, lawns, driveways, small businesses, and other informal local spaces. Instead of gathering in one fenced venue, attendees stroll from block to block enjoying live music, art, and neighborhood energy in a relaxed, family-friendly setting that highlights local talent, strengthens community connections, and brings people into direct contact with the places and people that make the town unique.

Nyack Neighborhood Music & Arts Festival (A Porchfest) exists because Nyack is uniquely suited for a walkable, community-rooted celebration of music, art, and local culture. With its vibrant neighborhoods, creative spirit, waterfront setting, and independent businesses, Nyack offers the perfect backdrop for a festival that brings people together not just as spectators, but as hosts, artists, volunteers, neighbors, and supporters of the local economy. By spreading performances across porches, yards, small businesses, and shared public spaces, the festival aims to strengthen community ties, showcase local and regional talent, encourage visitors to explore Nyack more deeply, and create a joyful annual tradition that reflects the village’s character, diversity, and sense of place.

Nyack Neighborhood Music & Arts Festival (A Porchfest) will take place throughout the Village of Nyack, with performances spread across front porches, lawns, driveways, small businesses, and other welcoming neighborhood spaces, creating a walkable festival experience woven directly into the fabric of the community. The festival also plans to include an anchor gathering space at Memorial Park, helping connect the neighborhood-based performances with a central location that celebrates Nyack’s waterfront, public life, and shared community spirit.

Nyack Neighborhood Music & Arts Festival (A Porchfest) will need a mix of basic event, performance, and organizational equipment to support both neighborhood stages and any central gathering area, including sound systems, microphones, speakers, stands, extension cords, power strips, signage, tables, chairs, tents or canopies where needed, lighting for any later performances, check-in and information materials, trash and recycling stations, and safety supplies. Depending on the scale of the main stage or anchor site, additional production support such as a larger PA system, backline equipment, generators, and staging elements may also be required, but one of the strengths of a Porchfest is that many performances can operate with relatively simple setups that keep the festival flexible, affordable, and community-driven.

Nyack Neighborhood Music & Arts Festival is seeking funding through a combination of grassroots fundraising, community donations, sponsorships, grants, and support from local businesses and partners who believe in the festival’s cultural and economic value to Nyack. As a community-driven event, the goal is to build a sustainable mix of public and private support that can help cover essential costs while keeping the festival accessible, locally rooted, and focused on celebrating neighborhood creativity, tourism, and small-business engagement.

Nyack Neighborhood Music & Arts Festival is a nonprofit corporation, and it has filed for federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, but that status is still pending unless and until the IRS issues its formal determination letter. In other words, the organization is operating as a nonprofit entity and pursuing full charitable recognition, but it should not yet represent itself as an approved 501(c)(3) unless that approval has officially been granted.
